The 10th edition of Europe’s largest free maritime festival, SAIL Amsterdam, takes place from 20th – 24th August 2025, celebrating 750 years of Amsterdam and featuring a large gathering of tall ships. A time to head for Amsterdam if you are in the region and love a festivity, or stay away if you hate crowds! The event takes place every 5 years and is centred around the river IJ in Amsterdam and the IJ Haven, to the east of the Central Station. Recreational boats are allowed to access the area but under limited conditions so check the rules at the city’s website.
