The Drecht waterway which joins the Oude Wetering to the junction of the Aarkanaal and the Amstel at Tolhuissluizen is no longer a permit-only waterway and can be freely cruised by visiting boats with low air draught.
The Drecht is an attractive rural waterway and a useful shortcut from the Braassemermeer to the Amstel. It is suitable for vessels with an air draught of less than 3.15m due to the fixed bridge at Leimuiden, which was lowered from its previous 4m in 2019. The narrow and angled access at Leidmuiden Tolbrug means it is not recommended for boats longer than 14m. Minimum depth along the waterway is 1.7m and maximum width of the waterway at the Tolbrug is 6m.
Two opening bridges, the Tolbrug in Leimuiden and the Bilderdamsebrug open on request during the day (cruising season only) with the Bilderdamsebrug taking rush hour breaks on weekdays only (1200-1300 and 1800-1830).
Canalside moorings east of Tolbrug for short stays with the supermarket and facilities in Leimuiden a 10 minute walk away.
