Louise’s interest in boating has led to commissions for Motor Boats Monthly as well as the Cruising Association’s magazine. She was the CA’s regional Almanac editor for the Netherlands, and has led an initiative to extend online availability of cruising information. Web editor for the Broom Owners Club, she previously worked for Europe’s No.1 marine website, www.ybw.com, and as Head of Marketing and Communications for Broom Boats. Over this period she has developed her interest and skills in photography, providing most of the images used in the book. In order to unlock the secrets of locally published cruising information, Louise acquired a working knowledge of the Dutch language, and this book includes a survival guide to its pronunciation and use.
David has lived in waterside properties on the Cambridgeshire Great Ouse and Norfolk Broads for more than 40 years and has been at home in this fenland landscape that has itself been much influenced by the work of Dutch drainage engineers. A detailed journal-writer and log keeper, many of David’s notes and sketches have been used in the compilation of this book. A former Council member of the Cruising Association and founding Chairman of the Broom Owners Club with 45 years of boating experience, he is a former Vice Chair of the Broads Authority and Chairman of its Navigation Committee and keenly involved with and respected within the boating community.
