If you are going to visit Deventer try to time your visit to coincide with the annual stilt festival in early July featuring performers from all over Europe. 

Most of the quirky and eye-popping performances are free and JH Deventer makes a lovely peaceful retreat from which to enjoy the festivities, a 10 minute bike ride along the river from the centre.
