The fast hydrofoil ferry is no longer operating from IJmuiden to Amsterdam. One less thing to watch out for on the cruise up the canal, but don’t rely on it for a day out to the capital.

There is a bus stop next to the harbour office at Seaport Marina (IJmuiden) from where you can take a bus straight into IJmuiden or all the way to Amsterdam. Bus 82 takes 50 minutes to get to Station Sloterdijk in the western suburbs of Amsterdam, from where you can take a 5 minute train ride to Centraal Station, or pick up a bus, tram or subway to anywhere in the city. Journey cost €7.

Handy for the sea lock, Beverwijk has free moorings at the end of Zijkanaal A with electricity and water paid available via the aanuit app. Award-winning fish kiosk on the quay!
